For months, Benjamin Netanyahu has claimed to be earnestly negotiating a ceasefire agreement in the Gaza war that has killed more than 64,000 Palestinians.
Then, on Tuesday, Israel bombed the site of the ceasefire talks in an attempt to kill the Palestinian negotiators. Even more shocking was the location of the attack: Qatar, the U.S. ally specifically asked by the Trump administration to host the peace talks.
If there was any shred of doubt left, there is none now: Israel has no interest in ending its genocidal war in Gaza and couldn’t care less what the U.S. thinks about it.
So why is the United States still funding it? Look no further than the American Israel Public Affairs Committee.
AIPAC is one of the most powerful lobbying operations in Washington, D.C., and the group spent more than $100 million to defeat pro-Palestine Democrats in the last election cycle.
Their message: Support Israel, or we’ll bury you.
You simply can’t understand the ongoing U.S. support for Israel’s genocide if you don’t know about AIPAC, and The Intercept has spent years tracking their activities and spending. We documented every dollar AIPAC spent during the 2024 election cycle.
Now we’re focused on how AIPAC’s lobbying makes it harder to block any attempt to limit the flood of U.S.-made arms to Israel. But let’s be clear: No corporate advertiser wants to fund this kind of hard-hitting reporting, and we rely on reader donations for over 60 percent of our budget.
