Pushback against censorship and anti-Palestinian racism

Recently, the Los Angeles Public Library canceled a scheduled Read Palestine Week author event featuring two Palestinian children’s and young adult authors. The cancellation has raised serious concerns among librarians, educators, and free speech advocates about viewpoint-based censorship and the silencing of Palestinian voices.
Consider purchasing one or both of these books to donate to your child’s classroom or school library!

National organizations, including the National Coalition Against Censorship and the ACLU of Southern California, have urged the library to reverse the decision and protect intellectual freedom. You can join librarians, educators, and readers across the country by signing a letter asking the library to reinstate the event and uphold its commitment to free expression.
Update Note: As of late February 2026, a library spokesperson had reiterated earlier statements about programming policies but had not announced any change or reinstatement of the event.
