This is a coordinated campaign by many major national organizations as these resolutions head for a vote in the Senate. Local groups are set to meet with Tammy Baldwin’s staff in Madison Monday, November 18 about these resolutions.

Background from the US Campaign for Palestinian Rights

Senators Sanders, Welch, and Merkley have introduced six joint resolutions of disapproval to block $20 billion in major arms sales to Israel— the first ever legislative action to receive a floor vote to directly block specific arms sales to Israel— as Israel conducts ethnic cleansing in North Gaza and expands its settler colonial violence to the surrounding region. The JRDs seeks to block arms sales of joint direct attack munitions (JDAMs) and 120mm tank shells, among other resources, frequently used by Israel to commit mass atrocities against Palestinians in Gaza and the surrounding region.

The United States, as a partner and active participant in Israel’s ongoing genocide, has provided or financed tens of thousands of lethal weapons used throughout Israel’s mass atrocities and destruction of infrastructure in Gaza. An October 2024 report by Brown University’s Cost of War Project showed that the U.S. under the Biden-Harris Administration has funded 70% of the cost of Israel’s genocide against the Palestinian people.

Israel is explicitly violating U.S. law and policy. As a result, the U.S. should enforce its laws and policies to end arms transfers and block arms sales to Israel. Despite clear and consistent violations, including Israel rejecting compliance with Secretary Austin and Blinken’s letter, the Biden Administration has continued to provide unconditional military support to Israel. If the Biden administration fails to uphold the law, then Congress must block these sales of weapons to the Israeli government.

Take Action: Senate to Vote on Blocking Weapons to Israel

Next week, for the first time, the Senate will vote on directly blocking weapons from being sent to Israel through Senator Bernie Sanders’s (I-VT) six Joint Resolutions of Disapproval (JRD). As the Israel’s genocide continues to decimate Gaza and its war of aggression in Lebanon continues unabated, Congress must send a message to Israeli war criminals that we will no longer give them unquestioning support. ADC is pushing every Senator to vote for the JRD’s, your voice can make the difference. 

Take Action Now: Demand That Your Senator Support the JRD 

On October 13, Secretaries Blinken and Austin sent a letter demanding that Israel take concrete steps to address the humanitarian crisis it created in Gaza. The letter gave Israel 30 days to make certain specific changes or face potential disruptions in US aid.  

Despite Israel receiving a failing grade from major humanitarian organizations on meeting the US conditions, the State Department this past Tuesday refused to follow through on its threats. There is no doubt that US law is not being followed, and Israel should not receive one dollar more in US support. When the Senate votes on the JRD’s, it will mark the first time that Congress will vote on stopping weapons to Israel, making your voice more important than ever. 

The Biden Administration has lost all credibility when it comes to its complicity and participation in Israel’s genocide, going so far as to completely ignore US law. It is long past time for Congress to step in and do what President Biden, Secretary Blinken, and Secretary Austin will not – enforce US law and say no more weapons for Israeli genocide.
