ACT NOW: HELP FREE DETAINED PALESTINIAN HOSPITAL DIRECTOR »
It has been over three weeks since anyone has heard from Dr. Hussam Abu Safiya, a pediatrician and the director of the Kamal Adwan hospital in northern Gaza.
In late December, the Israeli military raided his hospital and arbitrarily detained him, along with other medical staff and patients. His hospital was one of the last functioning hospitals in Gaza… and it was shut down completely in the raid.
Dr. Abu Safiya has been one of the most prominent voices of Gaza’s decimated healthcare sector. Despite the killing of his son last year by Israeli forces, he continued to come to work and treat children. He was detained while simply doing his job.
Take urgent action now: tell Israeli authorities to immediately release him.
Barb, Amnesty International welcomes the ceasefire agreement enacted over the weekend, which will bring urgently needed relief to millions of people experiencing unimaginable suffering.
But this nightmare is far from over — and people like Dr. Abu Safiya are still being held by Israeli authorities without charge or trial.
Right now, we are campaigning to demand that Israeli authorities disclose his whereabouts, grant him access to a lawyer, ensure his protection from torture and ill-treatment, and provide him with adequate healthcare.
He is being held under conditions that constitute enforced disappearance, a crime under international law.
Dr. Abu Safiya is among hundreds of Palestinian health workers who have been arbitrarily detained or forcibly disappeared by Israeli forces while carrying out their medical duties over the last 15 months.
Every letter sent could make a difference. Please take action now »

P.S. Testimonies collected by Amnesty International reveal a dreadful reality inside Israeli prisons and detention centers, where Palestinian detainees face systematic torture and are denied their right to a fair trial and due process, along with being denied access to adequate food and medical care.
