Do you ever wonder why the metaphorical frog in boiling water doesn’t snap out of it and just jump out already? It’s moments like these—when I’m writing yet another email about the nuclear-armed, genocidal state of Israel permanently merging with the U.S. military—that I understand.
The horror of unfolding genocide and rising fascism often feels overwhelming for our nervous systems to process, but we are not helpless. We each can make the choice to reject learned helplessness, reclaim our power, and take actions that matter.
I’m writing to share tangible actions you can take to stop the U.S.-Israel military merger, a deadly proposal that’s buried inside the annual military spending bill or National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA).
We’ve been in the midst of an open-book test, and the answer is always, “Everything we allow to happen to the Palestinians will happen to us.” As we resist Flock surveillance on our street corners and AI data centers in our neighborhoods, Congress is moving to pass legislation that would give the Israeli military permanent access to our weapons and surveillance technology.1 And we’re fighting back.

WHY IS NEXT WEEK SO IMPORTANT?
History will remember how Americans reacted during this short window of opportunity to block the Deadly Merger. After next week members of Congress will begin returning from recess to Washington, where they’ll vote on whether to merge the U.S. and Israeli militaries. Turn up the heat and make our voices impossible to ignore.
HOW TO STOP THE DEADLY MERGER
Public pressure has worked before! Members of Congress like Rep. Adam Smith2 have explicitly acknowledged that constituent calls pushed them to oppose this deadly proposal that would enable the U.S. and Israel to co-produce weapons and surveillance technology together.
The latest polls show that 61% of Americans oppose the U.S.-Israeli military integration.3 Make sure Congress knows who they’re representing in this vote.
When Congress returns to discuss the details of the NDAA, they’ll have the opportunity to strip the Deadly Merger section. If they have to contend with a sea of emails, voicemails, and letters from their angry constituents, it will influence their vote.
Defy the proverbial frog’s learned helplessness. Let’s work together to divert the heat to moveable politicians.
