On January 25 Israeli settlers invaded the village of Tuba and torched the village’s only vehicle, with the driver barely escaping the flames. The settlers also injured a 12-year old girl, ransacked homes, broke windows, destroyed desperately-needed animal feed and terrified all the village residents. This car was used to provide the entire village with rides to school, shopping, health appointments, emergency medical care, family visits, and everything needed from outside the village, and its loss is devastating. It’s also clear that this was the goal of the attack – to further isolate the village, ratchet up the terror that everyone there is living with, and move Tuba Village one step closer to complete ethnic cleansing.
A campaign has been launched to replace the car and repair some of the other damage. The Center for Jewish Nonviolence (CJNV), which has been working with Tuba residents for many years, has agreed to support them in raising the funds to recover from these damages. The costs to replace the jeep, animal feed, and repair other damage total $35,000 dollars. Anything beyond this goal will go toward other community needs (such as improved security camera systems) or to other communities in the region which have faced settler-state violence.
