The Trump Administration has proposed $8.56 billion in new US weapons transfers to Israel, just as the fragile ceasefire in Gaza stands on the brink of collapse.
Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) has stepped up and introduced Joint Resolutions of Disapproval to stop these weapons transfers. You may recall Sanders led a similar effort last fall, and our impressive grassroots mobilization helped garner the support of 19 senators, a historic vote on US military aid to Israel. Your voice is needed again, now.
The proposed sales include:
- $6.75 billion for 2,166 Small Diameter Bombs, 2,800 500-pound bombs and tens of thousands of fuzes, and Joint Direct Attack Munition (JDAM) guidance kits for use on bombs.
- $688 million for 15,500 additional JDAM guidance kits for use on bombs and an additional 615 Small Diameter Bombs.
- $660 million for 3,000 Hellfire Air-to-Ground Missiles.
- $312.5 million for 10,000 155mm High Explosive artillery shells.
Action Needed – contact your Senators and urge them to support Sen. Sanders’ Joint Resolutions of Disapproval, S. J. Res 20, 21, 22 and 23.
The U.S. has spent over $17.9 billion in U.S. taxpayer funding on weapons for Israel in the past 16 months, and tens of thousands of U.S. munitions have been used against civilian targets in Gaza to devastating effect, resulting in tens of thousands of Palestinians killed and entire cities flattened in what historians, human rights watchdogs, and a U.S. federal judge have found to be a “plausible case of genocide.”
Please contact your Senators today. With the ceasefire in Gaza in a tenuous state, now is the time to say NO to more US weapons for Israel.
Sincerely,
Kevin Martin
