The villagers of the South Hebron Hills live in shepherding communities. They are trying to hold on to their land, flocks, homes, livelihood and traditional lifestyle in face of Israeli violence and harassment including theft and killing of livestock, dispossession of land and property, arrests, violence and outrageous fines.
Completing 12 years of schooling here can demand up to 4 hours of walking to & from school in searing heat or freezing cold, all while avoiding army and settler attacks, and then studying with unstable electricity and shelter.
The Villages Group is an organization financing higher education for students who successfully run this gauntlet. Palestine Partners is working with them to provide a scholarship for a second year veterinary student. Having a local veterinarian is vitally important for this farming area. Between $1000 and $2000 per semester is needed to keep this young man in school.
