March 5, 9:00 AM, Beth Israel Center, 1406 Mound Street, Madison. Shapira will speak during services and stay for discussion after the Kiddush.

From the tour description: “Shapira served as a widely-respected senior officer for eleven years in the Israeli army’s elite “Black Hawk” helicopter squadron. He was dismissed from the Israeli Air Force after authoring and issuing the Pilot’s Letter refusing to serve in the occupied territories. Shapira will discuss the personal and political considerations that led him to write this letter at the core of a heated national debate.”
