The Madison-Rafah Sister City Project

Al Mezan re Madison Jewish Community Council

April 29, 2004

Dear Jennifer, and everyone in the MRSCP:

We also were disturbed to hear and read about the letter and articles of the MJCC, which was full of information that is so far from the truth. We view these writings in the context of the Jewish communities everywhere, to fight and refuse anything that is Palestinian on grounds of ‘anti-semitism’.

We, however, are glad that your program is still strong and functioning well for the same goals it was initiated for. At the moment we are following the letter of refutation with the Rafah Municipality and Al Mezan staff. I am sure that you will recieve some suggestions regarding more facts needed to refute the MJCC letter. All the parties involved in this project here are working on the response objectively. There is no need to exaggerate, for what is going on is in fact devastating.

I am sorry to tell you that our contacts with the Rafah Mayor failed because he was taken to hospital three days ago. He is suffering from heart problems. We will keep trying to contact Mr. Zoroub and his team, and ask them to look at the suggested letter as a first step.

It is important for us to assure you that every one engaged in the program here, in Gaza, understands the pressure you are exposed to in Madison, and that we will support you in whatever way we can. All of us should be strong and remember that we are working for just and human goals.

Yours,

Mahmud Abu Rahma
