Let Gaza Live

The Gaza Crisis
- The Human Toll “I could feel the blood dripping inside my head,” Ahmed said, recalling the days he lay wounded in the bombed-out building. “My father was crawling — he couldn’t move his legs,” he said. His cousin Abdallah, 10, was trying to stand up but kept falling down; his brother Yaqoub, 12, kept removing large pieces of shrapnel from his own stomach; and his sister Amal, 9, was not moving at all. Another brother, Ishaq, 12, was wounded in the legs. He bled for two days before he died [10]. Between the start of the latest Israeli attack on December 27, 2008 and January 14, 2009, at least 1,033 Palestinians have been killed [11]. The dead include 270 children, 93 women, and 12 paramedics [6]. Another 4,850 people have been wounded, overwhelming Gaza's medical facilities. Ten Israeli soldiers and three civilians have been killed in combat or in rocket attacks since the operation began [11].
- Reality and the Media U.S. media coverage of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict over reports the number of Israelis killed in the conflict and under reports the number of Palestinians killed [9]. "Israeli airstrikes in Gaza are anything but "new," but presenting them as such—and pairing that presentation with an Israeli family sheltered against an incoming Hamas rocket—gives a wildly misleading impression of a conflict where the deaths and suffering are overwhelmingly on the Palestinian side" [8]. - US Financial Support Israel currently receives one-third of all U.S. foreign aid. From 1949 to 2006 U.S. aid to Israel was $108 billion. Today it averages $2-3 billion per year, or $6-8 million per day, and the population of Israel is the same as Wisconsin [2]. Israel Is Killing Palestinians in Gaza with U.S. Weapons [7].
Talk to Others
- Contact your federal officials. U.S. policies are supporting Israel's attack on Gaza. Tell your Representative, Senators and President to stop supporting this with your tax dollars. Call for a cease fire that ends the bombardment, and an end to the siege with an opening of borders to allow the rebuilding of Gaza.
