Dear Members and Friends of MRSCP,
There has been much talk lately about whether or not the U.S. and/or Israel are preparing to expand the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan with a pre-emptive strike on Iran, possibly as a "December surprise" before the Bush-Cheney regime leaves office. For some time now the drums have been beating for war with Iran, just as they did for war with Iraq. But now the House of Representatives is considering an AIPAC-drafted resolution (H. Con. Res. 362) that could effectively demand a blockade against Iran - an act of war. Rep. Steve Kagan and Ron Kind from Wisconsin are among the many who have signed on to this "bi-partisan" resolution.
The consequences of a war with Iran would be devastating for the world. We must do everything we can now to prevent our government from following the horrifying course they are on. And in fact, people around the country are starting to mobilize for action.
On Tuesday, July 15 beginning at 7 pm, there will be a Town Hall Meeting in downtown Madison to discuss this topic. The meeting will be both educational and action-oriented.
Among the panelists will be MRSCP and Jewish Voice for Peace member Tsela Barr, who will cover the "Israel connection" to this very dangerous scenario.
We urge you to consider attending this meeting. Whether or not you are able to attend, please take a few minutes to read this excellent and comprehensive article discussing the arguments for, and against, the idea that Bush & Co. will attack Iran. As always, thanks for your support.
